Valenzuela is a highly urbanized city located at the northernmost point of Metro Manila. With a population of 725,173 as of the 2024 census, it ranks as the 7th most populous city in the National Capital Region and the 11th most populous in the Philippines. Once an agricultural area, Valenzuela has transformed into a major industrial center, hosting numerous manufacturing facilities and commercial establishments.

Valenzuela was originally part of the province of Bulacan before becoming part of Rizal Province and eventually Metro Manila. The city is named after Dr. Pio Valenzuela, a hero of the Philippine Revolution who served as the emissary to Andres Bonifacio. The area was primarily agricultural, known for rice farming and fishing, until industrialization in the mid-20th century transformed its landscape. Valenzuela became a city on February 14, 1998.
