Taguig has emerged as one of the most dynamic cities in the Philippines, home to Bonifacio Global City (BGC), the country's most modern and planned urban district. With a population of 1,308,085 as of the 2024 census, Taguig ranks as the 5th most populous city in the Philippines. The city's transformation from a fishing village along Laguna de Bay to a premier business and residential destination represents one of the most remarkable urban development stories in Southeast Asia.
In April 2023, Taguig won its long-standing boundary dispute with Makati, gaining jurisdiction over the EMBO (Enlisted Men's Barrio) barangays, further expanding its territory and population. BGC, developed on the former Fort Bonifacio military camp, now hosts headquarters of major corporations, international embassies, world-class schools, and premium residential developments, establishing Taguig as the new face of modern Manila.

트랙 30th - BGC's premier nightlife and dining destination featuring a strip of restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues along 30th Street.
테라 28th - A rooftop park and urban garden space offering green respite, outdoor activities, and stunning views of the BGC skyline.
Taguig's economy is anchored by BGC, which hosts the headquarters of major multinational corporations, international banks, and the Philippine headquarters of tech giants. The city has become a hub for the business process outsourcing industry, financial services, and increasingly, the technology startup ecosystem. Premium retail destinations like High Street and Uptown Mall complement the business environment.
Culturally, BGC has emerged as Metro Manila's arts and culture hub, with public art installations throughout the district, regular street festivals, and the BGC Arts Center hosting international and local productions. The city celebrates its founding anniversary every December with the Taguig Lakeshore Festival, showcasing the city's heritage as a fishing community alongside its modern identity.
Taguig's history stretches back to the pre-colonial era when it was a settlement along the shores of Laguna de Bay. The name is believed to derive from "tagig," referring to the rows of nipa palms that once lined its shores. For centuries, Taguig was primarily a fishing and farming community. The establishment of Fort William McKinley (later Fort Bonifacio) during the American period began the area's military significance. The conversion of military land into BGC in the early 2000s marked Taguig's transformation into a major urban center.
