📖 About Szczecin

Szczecin is Poland's seventh-largest city and a major Baltic seaport on the Oder River near the German border. With approximately 400,000 residents, this historic city serves as the capital of West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The port is one of the largest on the Baltic Sea, handling significant cargo and cruise ship traffic.

The city features extensive green spaces, Art Nouveau architecture, and a strategic location connecting Poland to Scandinavia and Western Europe. Szczecin was heavily rebuilt after WWII destruction. Today it represents maritime Poland—port economy, German-Polish heritage, and Baltic connectivity.

WWII brought massive destruction—65% of the city was destroyed. Post-war the city became Polish as Szczecin, with German population expelled. Socialist era saw rebuilding and port development. Today Szczecin is a reborn Baltic city—Polish identity, maritime economy, and gateway between Poland and Scandinavia.
