Praslin is the second-largest island of Seychelles, an archipelago nation in the Indian Ocean. With approximately 8,000 residents, this granite island offers pristine beaches, luxury resorts, and the UNESCO-listed Vallée de Mai—home to the unique coco de mer palm. The island measures about 12 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide.
Praslin is renowned for its world-class beaches—Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette regularly rank among Earth's most beautiful. The Vallée de Mai prehistoric forest was once believed to be the original Garden of Eden. Tourism drives the economy; visitors come for beaches, diving, and nature. Praslin represents tropical paradise in the Seychelles archipelago.

The culture is relaxed and island-oriented; fishing and music traditions continue. Food features fresh fish, octopus curry, and tropical fruits. Praslin was named "Isle of Palms" by early French explorers due to the coco de mer forests. Renamed after the French diplomat Duc de Praslin. French colonization began in the 1760s; the British took control in 1814. Plantation agriculture developed with enslaved laborers.
Seychelles independence came in 1976. One-party socialist rule lasted until 1991. Tourism development began seriously in the 1970s with the airport. UNESCO listed Vallée de Mai in 1983. Today Praslin serves as Seychelles' premier tourism destination—luxury travelers and nature enthusiasts drawn to legendary beaches and ancient forests.
