Al Daayen is a municipality in Qatar located about 23 kilometers north of Doha's city center, just north of the West Bay Lagoon. Established as a separate municipality in 2014, it has become one of Qatar's fastest-growing regions, home to the spectacular planned city of Lusail.
Lusail Stadium, owned by the Qatar Football Association, is the largest stadium in Qatar and the Middle East by capacity. With 88,966 seats (to be reduced to 40,000), it hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final between Argentina and France. It is currently the second largest football stadium in Asia.
In December 2025, Lusail Stadium hosted six matches including the final of the FIFA Arab Cup 2025, with record prize money exceeding $36.5 million. The stadium's design is inspired by traditional dhow sails and features a striking façade with dynamic lighting based on Islamic motifs.

Al Daayen represents Qatar's vision for the future, with Lusail City serving as a showcase of sustainable urban development. The area has attracted massive investment in real estate, hospitality, sports facilities, and entertainment infrastructure. Major international events continue to drive economic growth and global attention.
The 2022 World Cup left a lasting legacy, with venues like Lusail Stadium continuing to host major events including the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup. Seven Arab Cup participants—Qatar, Tunisia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and Algeria—will also compete at the FIFA World Cup 2026. The cultural blend of modern ambition with traditional Qatari hospitality defines Al Daayen's character.
Al Daayen was traditionally a sparsely populated area of the Qatari peninsula. The vision for Lusail was conceived in 2005 as part of Qatar's long-term development strategy. The city was designed to eventually house 200,000 residents and 170,000 workers.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup accelerated Lusail's development, transforming it into a gleaming showcase of modern architecture and infrastructure. The municipality of Al Daayen was formally established in 2014 to govern this rapidly growing region. Today, it stands as a symbol of Qatar's transformation and ambitions for the 21st century.
